Once again, the sea of red broke the hearts of the men in blue. The league was tight, but Man Utd managed to pull through after a 2-0 win at Wigan while Chelsea stumbled at home to draw 1-1 with Bolton. 10 days later, the Champions League final at Moscow. It was worth the waking up at 3 am to watch this match =) It was an open game, where both teams attacked each other from time to time. Man Utd drew first blood through Cristiano Ronaldo in the 26th minute after the superstar headed in a cross from Wes Brown. United poured forward in search for a second goal, but they were denied twice by Peter Cech, who produced point blank saves from Carrick and Tevez. At the stroke of halftime, by sheer luck, a seemingly harmless ball by Essien was deflected twice and the ball kindly fell to Lampard. Assisted by a slipping Van der Sar, the England midfielder was given a simple task of tapping into an open goal. The second half was equally entertaining, with Chelsea hitting the post once through Drogba and Tevez creating some trouble for Cech. In extra time, Chelsea looked the more dangerous side and nearly took the lead when Lampard's left foot shot cannoned off the bar, with Van der Sar clearly beaten. Giggs had a brilliant chance to seal it for United but his first time shot was somehow deflected by Terry on the line. Then, the ugly moment came....A harmless incident nearly caused a slugfest, and Drogba, what idiocracy...slapped Vidic in front of the referee and received a straight red. Even the commentators were baffled by the actions of Drogba. It was the last minute of extra time and there was no need to flare such tempers. Anyway, the game went into penalty kicks, where Ronaldo missed his spotkick, leaving Terry to win it for Chelsea. By a stroke of luck, he slipped while he was running towards the ball and it went wide to the left of Van der Sar. With Chelsea shaken, United got back their confidence and duly scored through Anderson, Nani, Hargreaves and Giggs, Anelka, under pressure to level the score for Chelsea made it easy for Van der Sar when his weak shot was parried away by the keeper....Final score, Man Utd 6 - Chelsea 5...It has been an exciting season and I'm happy that United retained the Premier League title and triumphed in the Champions league for the 3rd time. Congratulations! :D Photos for you all to see haha (no particular order thought :p)
