Went out the whole day today to do my Singapore Studies field trip and report. Grace, Chooi Syn and me were eager to see what Singapore countryside looks like. From the website on the Kranji Sanctuary looked like a serene, beautiful place where people can go in and enjoy nature. Our hopes were high, especially me, because for the first time, I was trying to take nice pictures using the D70 hahaha. Anyway, we reached Kranji MRT station at about 10.30 am and boarded the Kranji Express, a small chartered bus which travels around the sanctuary. Our first stop, Bollywood Veggies, one of the most publicised places in the sanctuary. Well, the outside was pretty impressive, many different plants and insects. Managed to get a few satisfying photos :D We then ventured into the place, with a small map in our hand as a guide. Overall, it was pretty okay, the arrangement of the plants and some of the 'wildlife' there are fascinating. Took many photos together with Chooi Syn, before Grace called to leave. Next stop, Nyee Phoe Garden. What struck me when I stepped into the premise was the commercialisation of the place. That set me thinking, isn't this place meant to be a ccountryside, where nature can thrive on its own?Shouldn't industries, no matter how small it is be barred from this place?Well, I just kept my thoughts to myself and deep inside my heart I was really disappointed with the so-called countryside of Singapore, which Mr. Ho Hua Chew so strongly argued that this place can forge national identity among the locals. Well at least I have some nice photos to show...
